Comics Are Dope

The Podcast is BACK with New Guests!

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

Reader,

I know... it's been a while since I graced your e-mail inbox with my presence. But you know I wouldn't do it if I didn't have some really exciting news to share.

You may recall me starting the Comics Are Dope Podcast up last year. After losing our co-host Skipntosh to a short cancer battle, I wasn't sure how (or if) I wanted the show to continue. But if there's any way to honor Skip's legacy, it's by beating the drum of comics as loudly as anyone can stand to hear it.

In that spirit, I've decided to bring back the podcast. But this time, I'm bringing guests! Over the next few weeks, I'm going Inside the Comics Studio with incredible comic creators including Greg Weisman, Roger Langridge and Christopher Priest (released in 2 parts)! There are others in the works, but those are just the few I can mention. I hope to establish a weekly cadence for the show, but we have a few time-sensitive conversations to post first.

This week, I published two new episodes featuring Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil writer Sweeney Boo; and independent Sci-Fi writer Matt Mair Lowery. The latter is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund new issues of his Thoughtscape comics anthology. I checked out the first 3 issues, and they're incredible!

These conversations are in depth. Like... as deep as time will allow me to go. And while each will eventually be published to YouTube with some visual aids, I think podcasting is the best format for enjoying them. Be sure to hit the link and subscribe, and if you're feeling extra generous, leave a 5 star rating in the podcatcher of your choice. It gives us a great chance to reach more comic lovers.

Read something Dope today,

P.S.: If you made it this far, I'd really love to know who you'd like to hear on the show. Let me know in a reply to this e-mail, and I'll try to make it happen! 😄

Does your to-be-read pile ever feel like a never-ending abyss you've fallen into? Are you embarrassed when a long-delayed issue 2 comes out, and you still haven't read issue 1? Have you ever misplaced an entire week of single issues you purchased? Me either. Okay... I'm lying. But you knew that already. The good news is I made a significant dent in my to-read pile this weekend, and an interview-free week means I should be 100% caught up by this Friday, for the first time in a while. There's a...

This was a sad week in comics. There's just no way around that statement, and I'm still in a somber mood over it all. We lost artist Mark D. Bright, whose work with Dwayne McDuffie on Icon opened me up to the Milestone Comics universe. But there's another tragedy rightfully taking over the headlines. Cartoonist Ed Piskor passed away Monday morning, marking a tragic end to an unfortunate scandal that had been brewing for the previous week. I mentioned the sobering nature of the allegations...

I feel so off-track to start the week. I started the day with a job interview, and ended it with a sick toddler. Safe to say, I’m already behind on my To-Do List. I figured I’d type this e-mail from my iPad while I snuggle up next to the toddler and watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood for the 74th time today. Let’s review a few comics I picked up last Wednesday. New Comic Reviews: 3/20/24 Black Panther #10 | Eve Ewing (w), Chris Allen (a) | Volume 10 of Black Panther is over, and MAN did that...
